TL;DR — The short version
01

Who We Are

SEO Pulse is a free Chrome extension built for SEO professionals and developers. It performs technical on-page SEO audits directly in your browser. SEO Pulse is developed and maintained by Amrin Grewal and published at seoextension.net.

This Privacy Policy explains how SEO Pulse handles data when you use the extension. If you have questions, you can reach us at the contact details in Section 10.

02

What Data SEO Pulse Accesses

SEO Pulse reads data from the page you're actively auditing in order to perform its checks. The table below describes every category of data the extension interacts with, where it goes, and why.

Data type Where it goes Purpose
Current page URL Local only Used to run SEO checks on the active tab. Never transmitted to our servers.
Page HTML & DOM content Local only Analyzed in-browser to check meta tags, headings, schema, links, images, and other on-page signals.
robots.txt file Fetched directly Fetched from the audited domain's server to check crawl rules. The extension fetches this file — it is not sent to our servers.
Server response headers Fetched directly HTTP headers (e.g. X-Robots-Tag, redirect status codes, HTTPS enforcement) are fetched from the audited domain. Not sent to our servers.
Sitemap files Fetched directly Fetched from the audited domain when using the Sitemap Explorer feature. Not sent to our servers.
DNS & server probe results Fetched directly The extension makes HEAD/GET requests to the audited domain to check www/non-www, HTTPS enforcement, and 404 handling. Results stay in your browser.
JavaScript content settings Local only Chrome's built-in content settings API is used to read and optionally toggle JavaScript for the current domain (JS Compare feature). This is a browser-level setting — we cannot access it remotely.
Extension settings & preferences Local only Your preferences (enabled tabs, default tab, Issues tab settings, etc.) are stored in chrome.storage.local on your device only. We have no access to this data.
Google Search Console data Local only If you use the GSC integration, data is read directly from the Google Search Console interface you're logged into. SEO Pulse does not store, transmit, or have access to your GSC data.
Personal information Not collected SEO Pulse does not collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, or any other personally identifiable information.
Browsing history Not collected SEO Pulse only analyzes the tab you actively open the extension on. It does not monitor or store your browsing history.
🔒

All page analysis happens locally in your browser. SEO Pulse has no backend server that receives data about the pages you audit.

03

Outbound Network Requests

SEO Pulse makes network requests only to the website you are auditing — never to our own servers. These requests are initiated by the extension on your behalf to gather SEO data for the page currently open in your browser.

Requests made during an audit may include:

None of the data returned by these requests is transmitted to SEO Pulse servers — it is processed in your browser and displayed in the extension popup.

The extension also loads favicons for third-party tool links in the Tools tab using Google's public favicon CDN (google.com/s2/favicons). No user or page data is included in these requests.

04

Chrome Permissions Explained

SEO Pulse requests the following Chrome extension permissions. Each permission is used exclusively for the stated purpose.

activeTab
Access the content of the tab you're currently viewing when you open the extension popup. Required to run the SEO audit.
scripting
Inject the content script into the active tab to read DOM content (meta tags, headings, links, schema, etc.) for the SEO audit.
storage
Save your extension settings and preferences locally on your device using chrome.storage.local. Data never leaves your device.
tabs
Read the URL and status of the current tab to determine what page is being audited and to detect navigation events (SPA support).
webNavigation
Detect when you navigate to a new page so the extension can reset and re-run the audit automatically.
contextMenus
Add a right-click context menu option to toggle JavaScript for the current domain (used by the JS Compare feature).
contentSettings
Read and modify Chrome's JavaScript content setting for a specific domain only, when you use the "Disable JavaScript" toggle. This is domain-scoped and persists until you re-enable it. It does not affect other domains or your browsing history.
Host permissions
Allow the extension's background service worker to make fetch requests to the domain being audited (for robots.txt, server headers, sitemaps). No host permission is used to send your data anywhere.
05

Local Storage

SEO Pulse uses chrome.storage.local to save your preferences between sessions. Examples of what is stored:

This data is stored entirely on your device. We have no access to it, and it is never transmitted anywhere. You can clear it at any time by removing and reinstalling the extension, or by clearing Chrome extension data in your browser settings.

06

Google Search Console Integration

SEO Pulse includes an optional integration that reads data from the Google Search Console interface when you have it open in Chrome. This integration works by reading data already present on the GSC page you're viewing — it does not authenticate with Google's APIs, does not store your GSC credentials, and does not transmit your GSC data anywhere.

You must be logged into Google Search Console in your browser for this feature to work. SEO Pulse does not have access to your Google account credentials.

07

Third-Party Services

SEO Pulse does not use any third-party analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or tracking services within the extension itself.

The extension's Tools tab contains links to third-party SEO tools (such as Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Semrush, PageSpeed Insights, and others). Clicking these links opens the respective third-party website in your browser. Once you leave the extension, you are subject to those services' own privacy policies. SEO Pulse has no control over and no relationship with these third-party services.

This website (seoextension.net) may use standard web analytics to understand site traffic. Any analytics used on this website are separate from the extension and do not affect extension functionality or data handling.

08

Children's Privacy

SEO Pulse is a professional tool intended for use by adults. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

09

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we will note them in the extension's changelog at seoextension.net/changelog/.

Continued use of SEO Pulse after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
